Springfield Acupuncture is a new local small business in Downtown Springfield that offers a variety of services to assist with a wide range of health conditions. To welcome them as new members of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, we recently spoke with them to find out more about their organization and services.

Tell us a little about Springfield Acupuncture.
Our clinic director, Darby Valley, LAc, sees the need for an affordable, accessible acupuncture clinic in Springfield and has long wanted to open a clinic in the area. We have had a few practice locations that have served the southern Willamette Valley in the last 15 years. Cottage Grove Community Acupuncture was our first and it is still going strong, serving as an anchor for traditional Chinese medicine in a semi-rural community. We also previously had a clinic in Eugene at Division and River Road, which was affiliated with Pain Management Partners for almost a decade, but the pandemic shutdowns and restrictions forced us to end operations there. After years of searching, a wonderful space became available in downtown Springfield. Adding to the kismet, Darby met our assistant clinical director, Maddie Foley, LAc, through leadership outreach on behalf of the Oregon Association of Acupuncturists. She quickly saw the potential, and it was not difficult to convince her to shift gears, relocate, and facilitate the opening and operations of the Springfield clinic.

What should the community know about the services you provide?
Our goal is to provide accessible, affordable acupuncture to as many people as possible. We offer a reasonable sliding scale of $30-$60, and work with most insurance plans (including OHP). We treat people from all walks of life who have a significant variety of health conditions. A big part of our job is educating people about Chinese medicine and its wide array of utility, especially with regards to pain management. Acupuncture is a small profession, and many people don’t know that institutions like the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins have recognized the benefits and now employ acupuncturists.

What makes Springfield Acupuncture unique?
Our practitioners hold doctoral degrees in Chinese medicine from the #1 acupuncture school in the United States; Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. In addition to acupuncture, we offer herbal medicine, lifestyle and nutritional counseling, and Chinese bodywork techniques. We can treat multiple concerns at once, and most people see improvements in other areas like sleep, emotions, and stress, as well as digestion in addition to their pain levels. People have the option to be treated in comfortable recliners or on massage tables, and we tailor treatments to our patient’s individual needs and conditions.

What is most rewarding about providing these services?
We see a lot of people with stubborn, chronic health conditions who have lost hope, and more often than not we can change that with a few tiny needles and some time. Being able to provide relief for people who are at the end of their rope is nothing short of amazing. Many people are skeptical that acupuncture can help them, and being able to show that they can live life with less pain and more enjoyment is a great privilege. We pride ourselves in making life easier for people experiencing health challenges (big and small), and have had great success in doing so.

Do you have any advice for others?
Try acupuncture! It isn’t painful, works well, and you’ll probably like it. Most people find it so relaxing that they actually fall asleep while resting with the needles. You have to see it to believe it, and we see it all the time.

Anything else you’d like to share?
