Downtown Springfield just got a bit more hip with the addition of Vinyl and Pine, an independent book and record store! Join the Springfield Chamber in welcoming their new members Vinyl and Pine, located at 660 Main St., Suite B., by learning more about their offerings in an interview with owners Sara Dubick and Trevor Brooks. The Chamber is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony and invites the public to join on Friday, June 13 at 4:00PM.

Tell us a little about Vinyl and Pine!
We are a new independent book and record store in downtown Springfield. We have primarily new books and vinyl albums as well as games, puzzles, art supplies and gifts. We hope to encourage our community to engage with small business and spend their time doing activities that do not involve screens like reading, listening to albums, or playing a game as a family.

How did you get started in your industry?
Like many people, we’ve always had a dream of someday opening a business of our own– specifically a record store– but over time that dream morphed to bring together more of our favorite things. At a certain point we just thought, ‘Why not us?’ and decided to start taking steps to make it a reality. We wanted to create a space we’d love to hang out in every day, and hopefully others will too. Trevor’s family has a history of retail business ownership which he was able to learn a lot from, and my (Sara’s) background in marketing and design has provided us with a diverse combined background to help us in taking this leap.

What services do you offer and what makes Vinyl and Pine unique?
We are a retail store offering a variety of books, records, games, gifts and more. We are the only independent store of this kind in Springfield. We hope to make it possible to find the things folks are looking for locally and from a small business. The store is a warm, bright boutique featuring a small but mighty inventory.

What do you like most about your work?
It’s fun to curate our inventory to try to find the unique items that will bring joy to our shoppers and share the things we love with them. It’s been great to begin to build community with people as they come in and hear about what they are passionate about.

Any advice for others?
We are new to business ownership, so we hope to meet other Chamber members and learn a lot from their collective experience. Our only advice would be if there’s something you want to do, start to explore it one step at a time. Why not you?

Anything else you’d like to share?
We are hoping to continue to grow and improve our offerings to best suit what our community is looking for so please give us your feedback on what you would like to see. You can also follow Vinyl and Pine on Instagram and Facebook!

About Vinyl and Pine
We are an independent book and record shop looking to share our love of stories, music, and so much more with you. We believe you can have a full record shelf and a Spotify account, a TBR pile on your nightstand and a Libby app. Because ultimately it’s about the content, not the medium. Records and books are for everyone, and we want to support you in finding your next favorite, whether it’s your first or your 500th. We also have a diverse selection of games, puzzles, art supplies and gifts with our inventory continuing to grow. We want to create a community space that will enrich our vibrant city. We have opened a brick and mortar shop in Downtown Springfield that celebrates the value of tangible media and IRL experiences in our digital world. When you shop with us, you help make our dreams a reality. Thank you!
