What:  A celebration recognizing Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through K-12 student entries of essays, speeches, poetry, and art. The theme for this year’s event is “Justice for Everyone.”

When/Where:  1-3:30 p.m., Monday, January 20. The MLK March for Justice and Equality begins at 1 p.m. at the Springfield Justice Center at 230 4th Street, and a reception from 1:30-2 p.m. and celebration from 2-3:30 p.m. at Springfield High School, 875 7th Street. The event is wheelchair accessible and will have ASL and Spanish interpretation available in addition to Assisted-Hearing devices.

The Keynote Speakers for this event will be the high school speech contest winners.

Who:  All community members and visitors are invited and encouraged to attend this free event.


About the MLK March & Celebration

The 22nd annual MLK March and Celebration showcases the achievements and talents of local students. This free, family event is organized by Springfield Alliance for Equity and Respect (SAfER, which is a program of Community Alliance of Lane County or CALC), with co-sponsorship from Springfield Public Schools, the City of Springfield, Willamalane Parks and Recreation District, Lane County Commissioners Joe Berney and Heather Buch, Oregon Community Credit Union, SELCO, and Springfield Education Association.
