Join us at the Maude Kerns Art Center for the Saturday Salon at Maude’s, on Saturday, September 14, from 4:00 – 5:00 pm, featuring the Baroque Betty band. The Saturday Salon, which is held on the second Saturday of every month, is free and open to the public with a small suggested donation.

Baroque Betty, featuring singer Betty Jaeger, violinist Michelle Whitlock, cellist Nanci McDonald, and bass player Jon Conlon, performs music that is hard to categorize. One commentator says that although the “ quartet’s string-laden melodies occasionally anchor them in the territories of folk, bluegrass, or minimalist rock, they’re more at home in the cracks in-between.”

Local audiences may be familiar with music recorded under their previous band name, “Betty and the Boy.” Guitarist and vocalist Woody Platt has described Baroque Betty in this way: “The texture of Jaeger’s voice, along with the instrumentation, which is almost semi-classical in places, is so striking. Difficult to describe, this is a unique ensemble playing good music – it’s pretty spectacular.”

The Maude Kerns Art Center, located at 1910 E. 15th Avenue at the corner of 15th and Villard, is Eugene’s first non-profit community center for the visual arts. Gallery hours are from 10:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday – Friday, and noon to 4:00 pm on Saturday when exhibits are on display.
