Spanish Language Book Group at the Springfield Library

Join the Spanish Language Book Group and Discuss “Las Venas Abiertas de América Latina” by Eduardo Galeano

The Springfield Public Library is offering a monthly Spanish Language Book Group. Pick up a copy of the book now and attend from 3-5 p.m., Saturday, September 21 to discuss “Las Venas Abiertas de América Latina“ by renowned Uruguayan author Eduardo Galeano. Library Journal describes the book as a “classic historical work about Latin America that focuses on its cultural, social, and political economy from the beginning of colonization.” Isabel Allende wrote that “after the military coup of 1973 I could not take much with me: some clothes, family pictures, a small bag of dirt from my garden, and two books: an old edition of the Odes by Pablo Neruda and the book with the yellow cover, Las Venas Abiertas de América Latina.”

This book group is open to the public and free copies of the book can be borrowed by participants who preregister at the library. The group will meet two times to discuss Galeano’s book: September 21 and October 5, 2019. Preregistration is suggested, but not required. To preregister, or for any questions, visit the library or call 541.726.3766. This program is made possible by a generous sponsorship from Joan Gray and Harris Hoffman.
