Tell us a little about Riverview Center for Growth
Riverview Center for Growth is a nonprofit organization in Springfield, Oregon, serving all of Lane County. We are dedicated to providing compassionate mental health care and crisis services for youth, families, and adults. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive space where individuals can heal, grow, and build resilience. We believe in empowering our clients through a combination of evidence-based therapies and holistic support tailored to their needs.
Where and how did you get started in this type of business?
Riverview Center for Growth began as The Child Center in 1971, initially focused on supporting children, and has since expanded its services to include adults and families. The need to transition to Riverview Center for Growth became clear after witnessing an alarming increase in mental health needs for all ages across our community. We saw children and families struggling to access timely, meaningful care, and that gap in services inspired us to act.
Before being appointed as the Executive Director, I worked in the field as a school social worker and an intensive outpatient therapist. These roles allowed me to pursue my passion for supporting and advocating for underserved youth and their families. I am deeply committed to community-based work and believe that clients are best served when we pool resources and collaborate as community partners.
What services do you offer, and what makes Riverview Center for Growth unique?
We offer a range of services, including individual therapy, family counseling, day treatment, psychiatry, peer support, and crisis intervention. These services provide a range of care that is designed to meet clients where they are at in life. One of the things that sets us apart is our mobile crisis response team, which provides immediate, onsite support when someone is experiencing a mental health emergency. In addition to our range of services, we also provide an onsite food pantry and clothing closet to our clients. Our food pantry is equipped with freezers, allowing clients to access healthy, fresh produce, proteins, and dairy items, alongside pantry staples. These resources ensure that basic needs are met, complementing our mental health services and fostering overall well-being.
What do you like most about this work?
The most rewarding part of this work is seeing real, positive change in the lives of those we serve. Whether it’s helping a child navigate anxiety, supporting a family through a difficult time, or seeing someone find hope after a crisis, knowing we’re making a tangible difference keeps us motivated. This work is challenging, but the impact we have on individuals and the broader community makes it incredibly meaningful.
I have to also point out that another aspect I value about this field is the privilege to work alongside other change-makers. I am lucky to work every day with incredible people who are genuinely committed to helping others. Our staff is amazing and it’s an honor to represent their work as executive director.
Do you have any advice for others?
If you’re thinking about starting a nonprofit or working in the mental health field, my biggest piece of advice is to stay connected to your “why.” This work can be tough, but when you’re anchored by a clear purpose and a genuine passion for helping others, you’ll find the strength to keep going. Building strong relationships and leading with compassion – whether it be with your team, community, and those you serve – are also key to creating a lasting impact.
Anything else you’d like to share?
We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from our community, whether through donations, partnerships, or simply spreading the word about what we do. As we look to the future, we hope to expand our services and deepen our impact. If you or someone you know is in need of mental health support, or if you’re interested in partnering with us, please reach out.
