The storage facility will store pet food and supplies for community members needing help

Greenhill Humane Society has recently completed construction of a new warehouse which will become home to the shelter’s Community Pet Food Pantry. The temperature-controlled storage, located at the shelter at 88530 Green Hill Road in Eugene, will allow Greenhill to expand its reach to help provide food and supplies to people with pets. Greenhill is hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony with the Eugene Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, April 13 at 12 p.m. to celebrate the completion of the warehouse and invites regional partners to attend.

“We never want a family to surrender their pet due to financial hardship. In recent years we’ve seen an increased need to help community members with access to free pet food and supplies. The addition of this storage facility allows us to receive and store more pet food and supplies to help even more people. This also enables us to distribute items to local human-focused nonprofits to help the people and animals who need it most.”

– Cary Lieberman, Executive Director, Greenhill Humane Society

Greenhill has had an onsite Community Pet Food Pantry for nearly a decade. The program was expanded significantly through nationwide support in 2020 in response to the Holiday Farm Fire and has continued to grow due to the pandemic and additional environmental and financial crises. In an effort to keep families and pets together, the year-round pet food pantry supports the community’s most vulnerable members. Over the past three years, Greenhill has distributed over 75 tons of pet food and has worked with nonprofits throughout Lane County to distribute pet food and supplies to where it’s needed most.

Greenhill Humane Society has teamed up with Greater Good Charities’ GOODS Program to increase access to pet food and supplies in our community. Having a permanent warehouse onsite affords Greenhill the space to accept larger deliveries. The food and supplies are donated by the truckload from generous donors and distributed to qualified GOODS recipients. Greenhill is one of two GOODS Program ambassadors in Oregon.

In partnership with United Way of Lane County and the Ride United program, Greenhill can also deliver free pet food and supplies directly to people and pets in need who live within a ten mile radius of the shelter.

Animal welfare or human service organizations needing pet food and supplies can visit Greenhill’s website to fill out a request form HERE. Individuals can visit the animal shelter any day between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. for access to Greenhill’s Community Pet Food Pantry.

Community support and donations enable Greenhill to offer this program. Those inspired to contribute to this program can drop off any dog and cat food (even if the bag is open), treats, cat litter, or KMR (kitten milk replacer) at the shelter any day between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monetary donations towards the pet pantry can be made by visiting www.green-hill.org or calling 541-689-1503.
