And she brings with her personal story the lessons of experiences growing up in Alaska, competing as a wrestler, pursuing and creating a vibrant career as an engineer, and relishing in the great opportunity of raising a little girl.

She has a deep drive to serve her community. When she branched out to start her own office with KCL Engineering in 2020, the mission arose from a season of exploring where she wanted to invest her emotional energy. Her office was birthed from a vision of building a team of engineers that is community-centered, connected to projects at the personal level, rooted in the ‘why’ behind each project. And she has found that living this message, and leading by example as an engineer driven by the greater context of her work, has created an environment for her project teams that is rich in personal connection.

Having recently achieved success in building a thriving local team of consulting engineers with KCL Engineering, Shyla is seeking opportunities to broaden the scope of her vision. She’s seen how aligning herself and others with their unique strengths ignites the heartfire of a team. What fibers make up a thriving community like Springfield/Eugene, one that seems driven by individuals passionate about helping curate the quickly approaching rapid growth of their beautifully woven neighborhoods?
