The Springfield Chamber spoke with Marketing Director Joseph Rivera to learn how Hearts for Hospice uplifts individuals and families navigating life’s most difficult transitions—offering not just critical resources, but also dignity, comfort, and connection.
Tell us a little about Hearts for Hospice
The funds we generate from our resale shop and warehouse, fundraising events, and direct donations are utilized to support grants for nonprofit hospice and palliative care services, grief support programs, and end-of-life education initiatives in Lane County. These programs are distinctive in our community and enhance the quality of life for hospice patients, grieving families, and individuals facing end-of-life challenges. We also provide scholarships to Lane County students pursuing careers in fields related to hospice, palliative care, grief counseling, and end-of-life education, with the ultimate goal of assisting individuals navigating significant life transitions.
What services do you offer and what makes Hearts for Hospice unique?
We deliver refurbished, high-quality medical equipment for those pursuing economical solutions. Our two locations, anchored by our warehouse, offer an extensive medical inventory. What makes us distinct is our volunteers’ dedication to truly assisting others. We’re aware of the difficulties and emotional burden you may be encountering, and we interact with compassion and understanding. Our aim is to be a supportive companion, rather than merely a vendor.
What do you like most about your work?
Witnessing someone find solace during difficult times, or seeing a client walk confidently with a walker and a smile on their face, is the reason we do this work – to provide comfort and reassurance during significant life adjustments.
Any advice for others?
Remember that people are dealing with unseen struggles, and it’s vital to approach all situations with kindness and comprehension. Lend support when feasible, volunteer in your community, and contribute to its betterment. The grass is greener where you water it.
