Founded over two decades ago, EDMS is a full-service printing and mailing company based in Springfield. In this Member Profile, the Springfield Chamber speaks with Vice President Joe Kuehn about returning home to carry on the family business, and how EDMS helps clients maximize ROI through precision direct mail campaigns and high-volume presort service – all while keeping communication local, streamlined, and impactful.

Tell us a little about EDMS, Inc.
Eugene Direct Mail Service (EDMS), Inc. is a full-service printing and mailing company, right here in Springfield, Oregon. We specialize in two core areas: direct mail and presort services. On the direct mail side, we offer end-to-end campaign support, from design and printing to list targeting, addressing, and final mailing (and everything in between). With decades of experience and a focus on efficiency and customer service, EDMS helps local companies save money and connect more effectively with their audiences to maximize our client’s ROI.

Our presort operation handles high-volume first-class mail for local businesses — picking it up, metering, sorting by ZIP code, and delivering it to the post office for discounted postage rates and faster delivery.

How did you get started in your industry?
Rob Kuehn entered the mailing industry over 20 years ago when he purchased EDMS. Although he was new to the industry at the time, his strong background in sales and previous entrepreneurial experience positioned him for long-term success.

I (Joe) began my career as a Certified Financial Planner in Seattle, where I spent six and a half years working with dozens of successful small business owners. This gave me valuable insight into what drives sustainable business success — from sound financial management to strong leadership and adaptability.

In October 2024, Rob gave me a pivotal choice: move back to Eugene to help run the family business or sell it. After only brief reflection, I realized it was an incredible opportunity to return home and continue the family legacy by leading EDMS into its next chapter.

What services do you offer and what makes EDMS, Inc. different?
At its core, EDMS is in the communications business — helping people and organizations share their message through mail. We focus on reducing postage costs while maximizing the return on every marketing dollar. Our work combines efficiency, precision, and creativity to help our clients reach their audiences effectively.

We specialize in two primary services:

  1. Direct mail marketing
    We work with hundreds of clients to bring their direct mail campaigns to life. If it arrives in your mailbox, there’s a good chance EDMS can make it happen — from letters and postcards to brochures, booklets, and more. We handle everything in-house, from design and printing to addressing and mailing, making the entire process simple, efficient, and effective.
  2. Presort mail
    Each day, we pick up mail from around 100 businesses across the Eugene and Springfield area. We meter the mail as needed (so our clients don’t need to maintain their own postage equipment), then sort it by ZIP code before delivering it to the post office each evening. Because our process makes the USPS’s job easier, we receive discounted postage rates — savings that we pass directly on to our clients. Plus, local mail stays local, meaning pieces sent within the 974 area reach mailboxes one to two days faster.

What do you like most about your work?
I’m passionate about helping people reach their goals — whether that’s our team members or our clients. At EDMS, it’s a privilege to cultivate a workplace where employees feel valued, supported, and empowered to grow. Any advice for others?
When it comes to direct mail, many people assume the industry had run it’s course — but the reality is quite the opposite. The industry is growing. In a world that’s increasingly digital, receiving something tangible you can hold and feel carries more impact than ever before.
