Member Profile: The Good Son, LLC

Born from a simple act of family support, The Good Son, LLC has evolved into a trusted resource for home and business owners across Lane County. Projects for the company range from DIY to full-scale construction and everything in between. The Springfield Chamber spoke with owner Thomas Ulrich about how his background in teaching, decades of home improvement experience, and a deep commitment to community relationships laid the foundation for a general contracting business that prioritizes trust, clear communication, and practical solutions – no matter the size of the job.
Tell us more about The Good Son, LLC.
The Good Son started as a request from my in-laws to tackle home repairs and keep them off ladders and rooftops. Once the neighbors started requesting help, we realized a lot of people wanted a “good son” for projects around their homes and businesses – things that often feel too small for contractors.

How did you get started in your industry?
My background as a high school social studies teacher who loves to teach, as well as 20+ years doing summer contract painting and home improvements, provided a great jumping-off point. It didn’t take long to assemble a crew of great employees focused on timely and friendly communication and work that matches client budgets and expectations.
What services do you offer, and what makes The Good Son unique?
As a licensed and insured general contractor, we’re here to take care of all those small – and sometimes big – projects with a friendly, trustworthy team you’ll feel comfortable welcoming into your home. We like to partner with other local businesses, whether it’s patching up walls after repairs, painting, rekeying a doorknob in partnership with Eugene & Springfield Lock and Safe Co., coordinating new flooring with Imperial Floors, or improving drainage with stone from Lane Forest Products, we’ve got you covered.
We love tackling your list of odds and ends, and if something outside our specialty comes up, I have great relationships with other local experts ready to help.

What do you like most about your work?
What truly makes our work special is the relationships we build. Helping clients we see multiple times a year for general upkeep – especially when they’re no longer able or have a desire to do it themselves – is incredibly rewarding. Hearing how grateful our clients are for courteous and reliable help is what makes every job worth it. We look forward to partnering with you on your next project!
