We’re monitoring Oregon’s 2023 legislative session for issues of impact and interest to our members. Here’s the latest update from our legislative counsel at the Oregon State Chamber of Commerce (OSCC).

Last week was dominated by long House and Senate floor sessions.

Legislators are trying to address the backlog of bills passed out of committee prior to the April 4th deadline so work can begin on those bills in the next chamber. Most House and Senate Committees were inactive because of the all-day floor sessions.

This dynamic is expected to continue this week with long and likely contentious floor sessions. As the Joint Ways and Means Committee advanced gun control and abortion bills out last week, Republicans are expected to attempt to delay these bills, which could continue to impact committee work.

OSCC will resume normal updates next week after they see committees start to re-engage.

The Springfield Chamber of Commerce will be publishing the OSCC’s legislative updates weekly, or as received. Any opinions expressed or implied are those of OSCC and do not necessarily reflect those of the Springfield Chamber or its representatives.
