Local businesses have borne the brunt of the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and probably none more so than local restaurants and the hospitality industry. These businesses are still in a fragile state, but the OLCC is proposing a regressive floor pricing structure that will only further harm these businesses.
If passed, this would effectively allow the state to set higher liquor prices on lower-priced products. Under this proposal, the cost of the most affordable liquor brands would increase the most – raising costs by up to 40%. This would make costs significantly more compared to neighboring states of Washington and California. You can see how pricing would be impacted here.
Our local restaurants cannot afford a price hike at a time when they are still trying to recover from the shut downs of the last year.
