New Member Profile: Kitchen Tune-Up
We recently got the opportunity to find out more about Kitchen Tune-Up, a kitchen remodeling business that transforms kitchens for less money, less time and less hassle than a traditional remodel. The owner, Colin McCarthy gave us an insight on his background, what got him into the kitchen remodel business and why he decided to open up shop in our community.
What is the heart of Kitchen Tune-up?
More kitchen, less money, less time, less hassle.
Why do you do what you do?
My background is civil engineering, construction and business administration. I became a HGTV addict about 10 years ago and decided that I wanted to get into the remodel business. When I looked at available opportunities that matched my skill set and likes, Kitchen Tune-Up seemed like a natural fit.
What got you into the field?
Timing, opportunity, location all came together. I retired from the US Department of State in September 2019 having been a Facilities Manager at various US Embassies in Europe and South America and wanted to do something on a smaller scale in a community where my kids could settle in a grow up. Having grown up in Ireland the climate here really suited me and we fell in love with the place during a visit 2 years ago. I interviewed several franchises before I left the government and hands-down the culture at Kitchen Tune-Up was the most real and genuine of all the ones I encountered and I wanted to be a part of it.
What does Kitchen Tune-up do best?
Transform your kitchen (or bathroom) in very little time (usually less than 5 days) for less cost than traditional kitchen remodels. Being a part of a franchise we have great systems in place and have awesome organizational support across the nation. We can provide a solution to your kitchen needs across a variety of price points.
Why did you choose to open shop in Eugene/Springfield?
It is a great place to live and raise a family, a university town, and just the right size for our business model. There is a thriving small business community here and networking has been great.
What are you excited to find out about Eugene/Springfield Area?
Really just having some time to explore the area. We have been busy establishing the business and setting up a new home and we really want to get to become a part of the community. We want to explore the countryside and nearby attractions and the kids are dying to visit the raptor center and visit the planetarium again. I have always wanted to learn a little more about classic cars so I’m hoping there is a meet-up or club nearby that I can tag along to.
Who is the chef at your home?
Definitely my wife, Audrey. I can make a pretty mean spaghetti, and some good homemade soup but if you want a real treat then Audrey is definitely the chef.
Is a kitchen remodel just for the chef in the family?
No, absolutely not. The kitchen is the natural gathering spot for the family. It’s where we hang out before and during meal-time. It’s where the kids often do their homework or where my wife and I have our coffee and read the newspaper on the weekends. It’s a less formal and more comfortable spot to host close friends if you have it set up right. Especially with the popularity of open-concept kitchen and a large island it really is the center of the home. No other room serves as many functions as the modern kitchen.
Is there any truth to the rumor that “1/3 marriages don’t survive a kitchen remodel?”
Ha! I had heard about 29% myself. But with Kitchen Tune-Up I can tell you that 100% of marriages are happier because it is so quick and easy and the results are so surprising.
A big thank you to Colin for sharing more about Kitchen Tune-Up with us and for more information about what Kitchen Tune-Up can do in your home, check out their website.
