Meet Joy Turner, owner and clinical director of Joyful Living Behavioral Health. To welcome them as a new member of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, we recently spoke with Joy to find out more about her and the organization.
Tell us a little about Joyful Living Behavioral Health.
Joyful Living is an outpatient behavioral health clinic. We currently have eight clinicians and two administrative supportive staff. Each clinician at Joyful Living has a unique set of skills and works with a variety of individuals including children, families, and couples.
Where and how did you get your start in providing this service?
I have worked as a mental health therapist for 15 years with a wide variety of adults, families, children/teens, and couples. I recognize the importance of supporting individuals and families based on their uniqueness and differences. There is no “one size fits all” form of therapy, and I pride myself on building a strong relationship with my clients to facilitate change and growth through my own personal and professional experiences. I started my own practice to meet the high demand of mental health services out in the community. I have a diverse background with client populations in addition to 10 years of human resources experience.
What are your areas of expertise and what makes Joyful Living unique?
I have a wide variety of experience in supervision as well as one-on-one therapy, family therapy, and couples’ work. I practice a wide variety of techniques and modalities based on each individual. I have 10 years experience working in human resources and philanthropic work, which has contributed to my knowledge base. Our clinic utilizes multiple types of therapies: DBT (certified DBT Therapist), CBT, EMDR (EMDRIA-trained), motivational interviewing, ACT, person-centered therapy, attachment-based family therapy, emotion-focused therapy, family systems therapy, Gottman method, strength-based therapy, trauma-focused CBT, solution-based therapy, nurtured heart approach, crisis counseling, mindfulness for self-compassion, attachment-based family therapy and play therapy.
Joyful Living Behavioral Health is an outpatient clinic offering comprehensive services for individuals, couples, and families.
