Springfield Public Library and History Museum Announce Plans for Día de Muertos 2023
A month-long community celebration at Springfield Public Library and Springfield History Museum
Springfield is observing el Día de Muertos during the months of October and November. Springfield Public Library and the Springfield History Museum present free cultural offerings that bring our community together.
Free Activities include:
- Artist workshops with Jessica Zapata of Eugene Arte Latino on Saturday, October 7 and October 21 at the Springfield Public Library
- Springfield Community Altar and Day of the Dead Photography Exhibition hosted at the Springfield History Museum, October 13 to November 22 in partnership with Comunidad y Herencia Cultural, Eugene Arte Latino and Día de Muertos Oregon Project.
- The entire community is invited to participate! Interested participants may contribute items at the Springfield Public Library or Springfield History Museum now through October 31.
- Day of the Dead Photography Exhibition in Springfield City Hall Lobby, November 1 – 30 presented in partnership with Comunidad y Herencia Cultural, Eugene Arte Latino and Día de Muertos Oregon Project
- All-day community art sawdust mural themed Tierra Madre/Mother Earth with Salem-based artist Margarito Sumoza of Casa De La Cultura Tlanese in the Springfield City Hall Lobby from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Thursday, November 2. This project made possible by sponsors Beyond Toxics and Springfield Utility Board.
- Indoor/outdoor event and procession in the heart of downtown with live music from Piel de Canela and Mariachi Cuervo, light refreshments and a dedication to the sawdust mural starting at 4:45 p.m., Thursday, November 2.

Actividades comunitarias de celebración y recuerdo en la Biblioteca Pública de Springfield y el Museo de Historia
Springfield celebra el Día de Muertos durante los meses de octubre y noviembre. La Biblioteca Pública de Springfield y el Museo de Historia de Springfield presentan ofertas culturales gratuitas que unen a nuestra comunidad.
Las actividades gratuitas incluyen:

- Exposición fotográfica del Día de Muertos en la Alcaldía de Springfield, del 1 al 30 de noviembre, presentada en colaboración con Comunidad y Herencia Cultural, Eugene Arte Latino y Día de Muertos Oregon Project.
- Mural de aserrín con el tema Tierra Madre/Mother Earth con el artista de Salem Margarito Sumoza de Casa De La Cultura Tlanese en la Alcaldía de Springfield de 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., el jueves 2 de noviembre. Este proyecto ha sido posible gracias a los patrocinadores Beyond Toxics y Springfield Utility Board.
- Evento interior/exterior y procesión en el corazón del centro de la ciudad con música en directo de Piel de Canela y Mariachi Cuervo, pequeña merienda y una dedicatoria al mural de aserrín a partir de las 4:45 p.m., el jueves 2 de noviembre.
