ADD “COMMUNITY SUPPORT” TO THE LIST OF WINE-DRINKING BENEFITS AS AREA WINERY RAISES OVER $13,000 FOR THE UNITED WAY OF LANE COUNTY WILDFIRE RESPONSE FUNDS.
Wine purchased from Silvan Ridge Winery between September 21st and October 31st contributed to the grand total.
November 12, 2020 –Local winery Silvan Ridge raised over $13,000 for the United Way of Lane County’s WildFire Response Fund through purchases made of their wines from September 21st through Halloween 2020. Customers near and far jumped at the chance to drink wine for a good cause, as a percentage of all purchases online, in the tasting room, in wine shops, and in grocery stores counted towards the donation. “We are humbled and honored to be a part of this amazing community and also to see the support flood in from all over the nation during what has been a difficult time for all”, says Angela Jaquette, general manager of Silvan Ridge Winery. She adds, “Join us in raising a glass to community, togetherness, and perseverance…Salud!”
“We are humbled and honored to be a part of this amazing community and also to see the support flood in from all over the nation during what has been a difficult time for all.”
United Way has already invested over $474,000 to immediate “response” efforts, funding organizations and initiatives providing those impacted with basic needs such as food, shelter, medical care, crisis counseling, respite care for children, financial assistance, and connection to community resources.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the individuals and businesses like Silvan Ridge that have not only given directly to local response efforts, but have also raised awareness and engaged their communities alongside them. The recovery process for the McKenzie River community will be long, so we appreciate this continued support,” said United Way of Lane County’s President and CEO Noreen J. Dunnells.
As county-wide efforts pivot to long-term recovery for the Blue River and McKenzie River communities, United Way, too, is pivoting to its next phase of investments. Future funding will be distributed in slightly larger amounts, and support not just immediate needs of those impacted, but also more complex needs such as addressing access to school, health care needs, and more.
Amidst so many crises, United Way of Lane County is constantly being challenged to respond to the ever-changing needs of local communities. And that is the work United Way was built for.
