PeaceHealth Breaks Ground on New Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital

Community and healthcare leaders gathered this week to celebrate the groundbreaking of PeaceHealth’s new inpatient rehabilitation hospital, marking a significant expansion of rehabilitation services in the region.
The ceremony, held at the site near International Way in Springfield, brought together representatives from PeaceHealth, Lifepoint Rehabilitation, the City of Springfield, project developers, media, and community members. Once completed, the 67,000-square-foot facility will feature 42 inpatient beds and the region’s first dedicated traumatic brain injury unit. The hospital will be majority owned by PeaceHealth through a joint venture with Lifepoint Rehabilitation, which will oversee day-to-day operations.

PeaceHealth Chief Administrative Officer Alicia Beymer emphasized the hospital’s mission to help patients reclaim their independence after life-changing medical events.
“We understand that rehabilitation is not just about regaining strength, it’s about rebuilding confidence and restoring hope. Together with Lifepoint, in this state-of-the-art facility, our patients will recover from life-altering medical events and achieve their fullest potential.”

Springfield Mayor Sean VanGordon highlighted the significance of the project for the local healthcare industry and the broader community.
“Groundbreakings are about more than just concrete and steel,” VanGordon said. “They’re about vision and commitment. Healthcare development can be so challenging, and to get this far is an amazing accomplishment.”
VanGordon also took a moment to acknowledge the contributions of PeaceHealth’s employees, noting their impact on the Springfield community.
“PeaceHealth is a major employer here, but we don’t get to come out and see you that often because you guys are so busy doing everything great that you do,” he said. “With so many PeaceHealth employees in the room, I just want to tell you thank you from Springfield – your work and your commitment is noticed, it is appreciated, and we are so glad you are here.”
After uplifting remarks, it was time to brave Oregon’s typical winter rain, don hard hats, and grab shovels for the ceremonial groundbreaking. PeaceHealth staff, city leaders, and developers all had their chance to take a photo to commemorate their part in this symbolic moment.

The project reflects a growing investment in specialized healthcare services in the region. In addition to the rehabilitation hospital, PeaceHealth is partnering with Lifepoint Behavioral Health to develop Timber Springs Behavioral Health Hospital, a 96-bed inpatient facility planned for the International Way area.
The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce celebrates this milestone and the continued commitment of PeaceHealth to advancing healthcare access in the community. Construction on the rehabilitation hospital is expected to be completed in the coming years, further solidifying Springfield as a hub for top-tier medical care.
