OBI to offer diversity training series

As national conversations around racial equity continue, employers across Oregon are examining how they can build a more diverse and equitable workplace.

OBI would like to assist with that effort by offering a free series of interactive training seminars for their members and partners.

OBI is partnering with the human resources firm Workplace Change to offer these courses, which will will examine the best and worst ways to recruit, support, and empower a diverse workforce. Training participants will leave aware of what effective leadership looks like, feeling empowered to promote a healthy work environment, and prepared to move to the next phase of optimal employee engagement – all of which are critical for recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce and a just workplace.

You MUST register for each training individually. Here’s what will be covered:

Session One: Wednesday, October 28th, 12-2pm

Session one will guide participants through a series of prompts and reflective exercises to explore why they are truly interested in having a diverse workforce and the ways their organizational culture will need to expand to welcome a more diverse workforce.

Session Two: Wednesday, November 11th, 12-2pm

Session two examines the best practices for finding historically underrepresented talent. During this session will discuss the best ways to invest scarce resources to find new talent, explore employer brands from the perspective of the underrepresented candidate, and much more.

Session Three: Wednesday, December 2nd, 12-2pm

Session three will focus on supporting the diverse work force organizations worked so hard to find. Topics such as conflict, manager pitfalls, and retention best practices will be explored.

Session Four: Wednesday, December 16th, 12-2pm

Session four is an honest discussion about the challenges with diversity in the workplace. Many leaders believe the hardest part of DEI is finding the talent. They are mistaken; the hardest part of DEI is when historically underrepresented staff arrive at the workplace and all parties must adjust. During session four, participants will have the opportunity to candidly discuss implicit biases, dominant culture and microaggressions.
