(Eugene, Ore.) – Volunteers in Medicine is receiving an $8,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente Community Health. The grant is part of Kaiser Permanente’s Days of Service from Jan. 16-24 and will support VIM’s general clinic operations. Kaiser Permanente encourages volunteering by its staff, and Dr. Cheryl Boyd of the Eugene clinic volunteers regularly at VIM.

On-going area grants from Kaiser Permanente Northwest include:

  • ShelterCare’s Housing for Health project, which is in the third year of a 3.5-year, $325,000 grant focused on eviction prevention
  • ShelterCare’s Phoenix program, which received a second round of funding in 2019 to provide housing for those with physical or mental health issues. Kaiser Permanente Northwest and PeaceHealth teamed to give a two-year grant of $600,000 in 2019 and a one-year grant of $590,936 in 2018.
  • The Commons on MLK, which will receive $750,000 for services during the first three years of operation. The Commons is a housing-first project currently under construction.

Kaiser Permanente’s Days of Service occur yearly in the week before Martin Luther King Jr. Day and reflect the organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as the health of its communities. During the Days of Service, as well as throughout the year, employees provide public service to their community. This is Kaiser Permanente’s 16th annual Days of Service, and more than 1,400 employees have participated at 45 Northwest sites.
