Looking for exciting and free activities this Spring Break? The Springfield Public Library and Springfield History Museum have you covered! From thrilling reptile encounters to magical performances, film screenings, hands-on workshops, and teen day camps, there’s something for everyone during the week of March 24–29, 2025.

“Our goal is to be a fun destination for families looking for free entertainment in the community,” said Abigail Craig, Youth Services Librarian. “Thanks to the Springfield Utility Board and our community partners, we’re able to bring engaging programs that inspire learning and creativity.”

Reptile Man Returns! | March 26, 10:30 AM, 12:00 PM & 1:30 PM | Sponsored by Springfield Utility Board
Back by popular demand! Meet Oregon’s famous Reptile Man and learn about fascinating creatures up close. Tickets are required and will be available at the library starting March 15 (one set per family group). A limited number of tickets will be available at the door.

Magic of Reading with Jay Frasier | March 28, 11:00 AM | Sponsored by Springfield Utility Board
Prepare to be amazed! Magician Jay Frasier blends sleight-of-hand, comedy, and audience participation in this fun-filled performance celebrating the power of reading. First come, first served seating.

Spring Break Film Screenings at Wildish Community Theater:
Family Movie Night: Hugo | March 26, 6:30 PM | Sponsored by Plank Town Brewing Company: Join us for a free screening of Hugo, the Oscar-nominated film based on the beloved children’s book.
• Documentary Screening: No Place to Grow Old | March 28, 6:30 PM | Presented by the Springfield History Museum and AARP Oregon: This powerful documentary explores the rising issue of senior homelessness. A panel discussion with the filmmaker will follow the screening.

Teen Events: Build, Lead, & Explore!
• “History, Hot Glue & Homes” Model Building | March 25, 3:00-5:00 PM: Teens (ages 12+) can explore housing history and construct model homes using hot glue and creativity.
• “Nations Creation and Domination” – Young Leaders Day Camp | March 29, 10:00 AM–2:45 PM: An immersive world-building experience where teens learn leadership, civics, and strategy. Lunch provided. Pre-registration encouraged. Learn more by visting https://www.ylprogram.org/

  • Bookmark Contest Exhibit | Sponsored by the Springfield Arts Commission | All March: View Springfield students’ artwork and play an “I Spy” game for a chance to win prizes!
  • Thunderegg Rock Club | March 29, 12:00-2:00 PM: Learn about Oregon’s state rock and take home a polished Thunderegg!
  • Bilingual & Music Storytimes | Tuesdays & Saturdays: Interactive reading and movement fun for little ones!

All events are free and open to the public, though some may have space limitations.
