The Springfield Museum’s second floor permanent exhibit space and stairwell will be closed to the public beginning July 25, 2019, in preparation for upcoming renovation work. The first floor Kathy Jensen Gallery will remain open to the public with no change in hours.

As part of the Springfield Museum’s reorganization, the Springfield Interpretive Center will be moved from the second floor of the Museum to the first floor, and the second floor will be used for collections storage and conservation workspaces.

“This renovation will give community members, visitors, and researchers more accessibility to the Museum’s exhibits, while also supporting the care and conservation of our irreplaceable artifacts,” said Museum Curator Madeline McGraw.

In May 2019, the Museum was awarded an $18,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation, through the Fred W. Fields Fund and the Albert B. and Jean E. Hallstrom Family Fund, to purchase archival storage equipment to support the renovation project. Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) puts donated money to work in Oregon – more than $100 million in grants and scholarships support Oregonians annually. For nearly 45 years, OCF grant-making, research, advocacy and community-advised solutions have helped individuals, families,      businesses and organizations create charitable funds to improve lives for all Oregonians.

The Museum will continue to host changing exhibits, receptions, and programming in the Kathy Jensen Gallery during the renovations. Regular hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday-Saturday. Admission is free! For more information, visit the Springfield Museum on Facebook or call 541.726.2300.
