Lane County’s lodging taxes have been collected by the City of Eugene for many years, but on October 1, 2022, the collection process moved to the State Department of Revenue. The Department of Revenue is well-equipped to collect and remit the taxes paid by commercial lodging properties, including hotels/motels, short-term rentals, campgrounds, and anyone renting dwellings (such as RVs rented for overnight stays) that fall within the state and county statutes that cover transient lodging use.

The most significant change related to the Department of Revenue managing lodging tax collection is that remittance is quarterly versus monthly. Any business responsible for paying the tax will want to visit the state’s website if there are questions about filing deadlines. The site has helpful links to information about who is responsible for payment of lodging taxes. Additionally, Lane County code covers specific information about rates and exemptions that apply in various circumstances.

The second lodging tax change for Lane County is a 2% increase in the rate, which takes effect on January 1, 2023. The Board of Commissioners approved this increase on September 27, 2022.

Lane County set an all-time record for transient lodging taxes received in FY 2021/22. Thank you to all our lodging partners for the great work you do in providing visitors and residents with authentic Oregon experiences.
