City of Springfield Seeks Applicants for Boards, Committees, and Commissions

The City of Springfield invites passionate and civic-minded community members to apply for open positions on several boards, committees, and commissions. This is a valuable opportunity to help shape public policy, guide city initiatives, and ensure that community perspectives are well represented in decision-making.

Applications are available online at Springfield Get Involved. The deadline for all positions is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2025. Completed applications may be submitted electronically to cmomail@springfield-or.gov or delivered to the City Manager’s Office at 225 5th Street, Springfield, OR 97477.

Available positions

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC)

  • Openings: Two full-term voting member positions (3-year terms starting January 2026)
  • Duties: Advise on active transportation policies, programs, and projects.
  • Eligibility: Springfield residents interested in walking, biking and active mobility.

Budget Committee

  • Openings:
    • Ward 2 representative (term ends 12/31/27)
    • Ward 5 representative (term ends 12/31/26
    • SEDA representative, must be a business owner within the SEDA Downtown District (term ends 12/31/28)
  • Duties: Review and advise on the City’s annual budget and financial plans.
  • Eligibility: Must reside in the ward represented in the open positions. Ward Map.

Community Development Advisory Committee (CDAC)

  • Openings:
    • One partial term (ending 12/31/2027)
    • One full-term (ending 12/31/29)
  • Duties: Advise on federal grant funding, public comments, and project selection for affordable housing and community development initiatives.
  • Eligibility: Must reside, own property, or operate a business in Springfield.

Historic Commission

  • Openings:
    • One partial term (ending 12/31/2026)
    • One full-term (ending 12/31/29)
  • Duties: Preserve and interpret Springfield’s historic and cultural resources.
  • Eligibility: Preference for professionals in architecture, history, or related fields. Must reside or be an elector within the Metro Plan boundaries.

Planning Commission

  • Openings: One full-term position (ending 12/31/2028)
  • Duties: Make decisions on land use applications and advise the City Council on planning and zoning.
  • Eligibility: Must live within Springfield or within the Urban Growth Boundary (UGB).

Springfield Arts Commission

  • Openings:
    • Two full-term positions (ending 12/31/2028)
    • Two partial term positions (ending 12/31/2026)
  • Duties: Support and promote the arts through community events, grants, and outreach.
  • Eligibility: Must live, own property, or operate a business in Springfield. One non-resident seat is available.

Springfield History Museum Committee

  • Openings:
    • One partial term (ending 12/31/2026)
    • Two partial terms (ending 12/31/2028)
    • One full-term (ending 12/31/2029)
  • Duties: Assist with museum exhibit planning, programming, and outreach.
  • Eligibility: Preference for Springfield residents or business owners.

Springfield Police Advisory Committee

  • Openings: Three full-term positions (ending 12/31/2029)
  • Duties: Provide community input on policy development, long range planning, and department operations.
  • Eligibility: Must reside within the Springfield city limits.

Springfield Public Library Board

  • Openings: Two full-term positions (ending 12/31/2029)
  • Duties: Recommend policies, services, and long-term planning for the Springfield Public Library.
  • Eligibility: Must be a Springfield resident.
