City of Springfield Seeks Bicycle Friendly Community Status

The City of Springfield is once again seeking national recognition as a Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC) through the League of American Bicyclists. This designation evaluates and celebrates communities that are building safer streets and better biking networks to make bicycling a real transportation and recreation option for all. Springfield earned a Bronze designation in 2018 and is now reapplying, intending to upgrade its status to a Silver designation.
The City submitted its 2025 BFC application earlier this summer. This process served as a valuable opportunity for reflection and development. It allows the City to showcase what has been accomplished and determine the next steps to make Springfield safer and more welcoming for people who bike. To support the League’s review process and gather meaningful community insight, the City is partnering with the League to distribute a public survey.
Community input needed: complete the survey by October 5
The League of American Bicyclists is inviting all residents and those familiar with biking in Springfield to complete the public survey now available through Sunday, October 5, 2025. The survey is a key part of the League’s evaluation process and provides valuable feedback directly to the City.

The League of American Bicyclists will announce BFC awards in December 2025, with the City receiving feedback and survey results in advance. The results will guide future transportation planning, community engagement, and infrastructure investments.
