Willamalane Seeking Volunteers to Assist with Ice Storm Cleanup

The historic storm event in January caused significant damage to neighborhood parks and Willamalane Park and Recreation District is seeking volunteer help. Volunteers will clean up paths, move and pile debris to chipping staging areas and more. This will also support the ability of Willamalane’s parks staff to focus on technical tasks.

Volunteer numbers have slowed down quite a bit and it has been hard to meet the minimum registration to hold the cleanups. Due to staff availability, Willamalane is not able to offer weekend or evening cleanup events. Businesses that are interested in team-building events or that sponsor volunteer hours would be a great fit for these opportunities.

There are three new events scheduled on Thursdays from 1-5 p.m. on March 21 and April 4. Details here: https://willamalane.galaxydigital.com/need/detail/?need_id=895264

Volunteers should be comfortable with a moderate activity level of movement, inclement weather, bending, lifting, and walking on uneven or slippery terrain. Come wearing sturdy closed-toe shoes and clothing that can get dirty (long pants and long sleeve shirts are recommended). Be sure to dress for the weather and anticipate cool and potentially wet weather (layers, waterproof boots, waterproof jacket etc.). The events will take place rain or shine, so come prepared for the forecasted weather conditions.

If some groups are interested in scheduling standalone teams, that is also an option. Those wouldn’t have to be on the scheduled dates listed on the opportunity shifts. Contact Maggie O’Driscoll, Volunteer Coordinator at maggie.odriscoll@willamalane.org or call 541-852-8766.
