Meet Brian Rose, owner of RoseGemShop LLC. To welcome them as a new member of the Springfield Chamber of Commerce, we recently spoke with Brian to find out more about him and the company.

Tell us a little about RoseGemShop.
We offer gemstones and jewelry that are either mined directly by us or that are sourced from other mines where we know they practice ethical sourcing. No stones from conflict zones, child labor and many of the other “nasty secrets” the big jewelry companies don’t want you to know about. The jewelry we make are all one-of-a-kind pieces. No two are ever the same.

Where and how did you get started in this type of business?
The business was started here in Springfield during the initial COVID epidemic. My wife and I enjoy the outdoors, and I’ve been a rockhound since I was young. We wanted to do something that would be fun and I researched gemstones found in Oregon. We thought it would be a good time – and it was, but when we finished, we found that we had far more gemstones than we could use ourselves. I started selling them first to friends, then on social media and Etsy. Eventually, we got a website and started in earnest in January, 2023.

What makes RoseGemShop unique?
One thing that makes it unique is that we sell gems like Oregon sunstone and Oregon fire opal that you can’t usually find at retail jewelers. We also sell emeralds and other gems from Pakistan,  Afghanistan and SriLanka.

What do you like most about your work?
I enjoy helping people buy their dream jewelry– talking about the design, the stones, which metal, etc., is very fun for me. Watching someone get a piece of jewelry that will be a family heirloom is special.

Any particular gems you think Oregonians should know about?
Oregon sunstone! It’s amazing how few Oregonians actually know about it. Even when they know something about it, I can help educate them on the variety of colors, the ways light reacts with different cuts and the copper “schiller” in the stone and more.

RoseGemShop specializes in self-mined Oregon sunstone and fire opal, as well as great prices on other gemstones from around the world. They also offer custom jewelry pieces made from their stones.
