Helping Our Local Pollinators: A Leadership Eugene-Springfield Class Project
Local civic leaders create pollinator-attracting gardens and how-to guide for Lane County residents; public celebration on April 23rd, 2022
Springfield, OR (April 19, 2022) — As part of the Eugene and Springfield Chambers of Commerce Leadership Eugene-Springfield program, a group of seven team members from this year’s cohort have embarked on a local initiative to help Lane County’s local pollinators. The group will plant three new pollinator gardens in Eugene and Springfield with flowers, herbs, and other plants that will attract pollinators at the following sites:
- Huerto de la Familia in Springfield
- Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce in Springfield
- Thinking Tree Spirits Tasting Room in Eugene
In addition to planting three gardens, the group created a digital resource guide in both English and Spanish to help community members learn about pollinators and how they can plant their own garden to make an impact on a local level. Each garden site will have signage available with QR codes that link to the digital resource guides.
To celebrate the three new gardens, the group will be having a planting event and table with educational resources available at Thinking Tree Spirits (88 Jackson Street, Eugene, Oregon) on Saturday, April 23, from 12:00pm – 3:00pm.
During the event, community members are invited to see the garden, learn more about pollinators, and sample Thinking Tree’s ready-to-drink bottled cocktail, The Bee’s Knees. The honey used in The Bee’s Knees was provided in partnership by Eugene-based organization GloryBee; a percentage of the sales of The Bee’s Knees goes towards supporting GloryBee’s SAVE the BEE initiative.
