Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission Adopts 2026-27 Budget

At its monthly meeting on Friday, June 12, the Metropolitan Wastewater Management Commission (MWMC) adopted its budget for Fiscal Year 2026-2027.
The operating budget is approximately $29.6 million and includes a rate change for users, adjusting fees by five-point-five (5.5) percent, translating to approximately a $1.84 monthly increase (per 5,000 gallons of wastewater treated). The budget increase was primarily due to rising costs associated with utility charges, billing collection, construction activities, and contractual service needs at the Biosolids Management Facility (BMF) for poplar tree harvest. Wastewater staff also continue to bring in revenue from septage haulers, Renewable Natural Gas sales, and property leases.
To continue meeting regulations and provide critical wastewater services to the Eugene-Springfield community into the future, construction activities at the treatment plant and on pump stations will improve resiliency, meet seismic codes, and modernize infrastructure that has aged past its usable life span.
Before the MWMC formally adopted its budget, it was approved by all the governing bodies in the partnership, including the Eugene and Springfield City Councils and the Lane County Board of County Commissioners.
