City of Springfield Celebrates Public Service Recognition Week, Highlights Employees Behind Essential Services

Mayor Sean VanGordon has proclaimed May 3-9, 2026 as Public Service Recognition Week in Springfield, recognizing the contributions of public employees who serve the community each day.

Public Service Recognition Week, observed nationally during the first full week of May, honors individuals at all levels of government whose work supports essential services that residents rely on.

Across our organization, employees bring professionalism, accountability, and a strong sense of purpose to their work. This week is an opportunity to recognize that commitment and the impact it has on the people we serve.”

The City of Springfield is a full-service organization, with employees across departments working to maintain infrastructure, provide public safety, support community programs, and deliver essential services. While much of this work happens behind the scenes, it remains essential to the daily functioning of the community.

As part of this recognition, the City is highlighting employees whose work reflects the values of public service.

City Recorder – Allyson Pulido
“Our job is to make local government accessible to every resident,” said Allyson Pulido. “It is incredible to be part of the team that makes that happen.”

As City Recorder, Pulido supports transparency and access by managing public records, coordinating City Council processes, and ensuring residents can engage with their local government.

City Emergency Manager – Ken Vogeney
“Our job is to ensure community members have access to resources to prepare for an emergency,” said Ken. “In the event of a citywide emergency, we coordinate and connect community members and city staff to immediate resources.”

As City Emergency Manager, Ken guides the City’s preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery to citywide emergencies through partnerships with other local, state, and federal agencies, non-profits, volunteers, and community members.
