City of Springfield Seeks Applicants for Boards, Committees and Commissions

The City of Springfield is seeking community members interested in helping shape local decisions by serving on a City board, committee or commission. Applications are now open for positions covering transportation, budgeting, historic preservation, arts, planning, public safety and more.

Boards, committees, and commissions give community members an opportunity to share their experience and perspectives while working with City staff and elected officials on issues that impact Springfield.

Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. Thursday, October 1, 2026. Position requirements vary, and community members are encouraged to review the opportunities below to find one that matches their interests and experience.

AVAILABLE POSITIONS

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (BPAC)

• Openings: One full-term position (term ends December 31, 2029)
• Duties: Advise on active transportation policies, programs, and projects.
• Eligibility: Residents interested in walking, biking and active mobility.
• Priority Area: Seeking residents outside of Springfield city limits within the Springfield urban growth boundary.

SEDA Budget Committee

• Openings:
  • One SEDA Downtown District representative (term ends December 31, 2028)
  • One SEDA Glenwood District representative (term ends December 31, 2027)
• Duties: Review and advise on the SEDA’s annual budget and financial plans.
• Eligibility: Applicants must be registered voters within Springfield city limits and either:
  • Live in the SEDA district associated with the position; or
  • Have a business interest, such as owning a business, in the SEDA district associated with the position.

Historic Commission

• Openings: Two full-term positions (term ends December 31, 2030)
• Duties: Preserve and interpret Springfield’s historic and cultural resources.
• Eligibility: Preference for professionals in architecture, history, or related fields. Must reside or be an elector within the Metro Plan boundaries.

Library Advisory Board

• Openings: One full-term position (ending 12/31/30)
• Duties: Advise the City Council and Library Director on library policies, services, programs, and community needs.
• Eligibility: Must reside within the Springfield city limits.

Springfield Arts Commission

• Openings: One partial term position (term ends December 31, 2030)
• Duties: Support and promote the arts through community events, grants, and outreach.
• Eligibility: Must live, own property, or operate a business in Springfield.

Springfield History Museum Committee

• Openings: One full-term position (term ends December 31, 2029)
• Duties: Assist with museum exhibit planning, programming, and outreach.
• Eligibility: Preference for Springfield residents or business owners.

Planning Commission

• Openings: Four full-term at-large positions (term ends December 31, 2030)
• Duties: Make decisions on land use matters and advise the City Council on planning, zoning, development, and other legislative planning issues.
• Eligibility: Springfield residents with an interest in land use and community planning.

Springfield Police Advisory Committee (SPAC)

• Openings: One full-term at-large position (term ends December 31, 2030)
• Duties: Provide community input on police policy development, long-range planning, and department operations.
• Eligibility: Must reside within the Springfield city limits.

Interviews & Selection
The Springfield City Council will interview applicants during scheduled work sessions in November and December 2026. Dates and times will be announced in advance.
