Thurston-area proposed bike path is part of a grant-funded feasibility study

As part of a grant-funded feasibility study, Willamalane Park and Recreation District is seeking community feedback on the potential development of a new multi-use path. The path would run along the McKenzie River and through Willamalane’s Moe Mountain area, connecting Springfield’s Thurston area to the existing EWEB multi-use path.

Community members can learn more about the project and share feedback through an online guided survey. The survey is open until July 5 and available here

If the project moves forward, the final route will be determined based on this community input.

This path was identified as a high priority in Willamalane’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan and is also a part of the City of Springfield’s Transportation System Plan. Currently, there are no trails connecting North Thurston to the western parts of Springfield. Over several years, Willamalane has received community feedback for additional multi-use path access along the McKenzie River.

At this stage, Willamalane has partnered with a consultant to evaluate the feasibility of this project and to collect input to ensure that, if constructed, the path would best serve the community. The feasibility phase of the project is grant-funded through the Community Paths Program with the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Following completion of the study, Willamalane will consider next steps, which may include seeking grant funding, refining potential route options, and developing preliminary design concepts.
