Established in 1977, Kairos is a behavioral health provider dedicated to serving youths and families across Oregon. The Springfield Chamber recently connected with Scott Rogers, Director of Development at Kairos, to learn more about the organization.

Tell us a little about Kairos.
For nearly 50 years, Kairos has been dedicated to helping children, youth, young adults, and families achieve better mental health and brighter futures. As one of Oregon’s leading behavioral health providers, Kairos offers a continuum of care designed to meet individuals where they are and provide support during some of life’s most challenging moments.

Today, Kairos serves communities throughout Southern Oregon, the Oregon Coast, and the Willamette Valley through outpatient mental health clinics, Residential Treatment Homes, Treatment Foster Care, respite foster care, and other specialized services. We are particularly excited about the expansion of Lane Services, our newest outpatient mental health program serving youth, young adults, and families throughout Eugene, Springfield, and Lane County. Telehealth services are available now, helping individuals and families access care while we continue building our presence in the community. Our mission is rooted in compassion, innovation, and the belief that every young person deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and thrive.

How did you get started in your industry?
Kairos was founded in 1977 by a group of dedicated community members who recognized a growing need for mental health services for children and adolescents. Since then, the organization has evolved into a comprehensive behavioral health provider while remaining committed to its original purpose: helping young people and families overcome challenges and build healthy, successful lives.

Over the decades, Kairos has continually expanded its programs and services in response to community needs. Today, we are actively growing our reach through initiatives such as Lane Services, ensuring more youth, young adults, and families have access to quality mental health care close to home. We are honored to serve Eugene, Springfield, and communities throughout Lane County and look forward to building strong partnerships that strengthen the health and well-being of the region.

What services do you offer, and what makes Kairos different?
Kairos offers a wide range of mental health services, including outpatient therapy, family therapy, individual and family skills coaching, youth peer support, psychiatric services, Residential Treatment Homes, Treatment Foster Care, and respite foster care.

What makes Kairos different is our commitment to providing a continuum of care that supports youth and families at every stage of their journey. Rather than focusing on a single service, we work collaboratively across programs to provide individualized care tailored to each person’s needs.

Our team is passionate about delivering trauma-informed, culturally responsive care while building strong partnerships with schools, healthcare providers, community organizations, and families. We focus not only on addressing immediate challenges but also on creating long-term pathways toward stability, resilience, and success.

What do you like most about your work?
The most rewarding part of our work is witnessing transformation. Every day, we see young people overcome obstacles, families rebuild relationships, and individuals discover strengths they never knew they had.

Mental health challenges can affect every aspect of a person’s life, but with the right support, recovery is possible. Knowing that our staff play a role in helping someone regain hope, confidence, and a sense of purpose is incredibly meaningful.

We also take pride in being part of communities across Oregon and working alongside local partners who share our commitment to improving the lives of children, youth, young adults, and families.

Any advice for others?
Don’t wait to seek help. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

For parents, caregivers, and community members, remember that small acts of compassion and understanding can have a lasting impact. Creating environments where young people feel safe, supported, and heard can make all the difference.

For organizations and community leaders, collaboration is key. Addressing the youth mental health crisis requires strong partnerships, innovative solutions, and a shared commitment to improving access to care.

Anything else you’d like to share?
The need for youth mental health services has never been greater. Nationally, only about 20% of children and adolescents with diagnosable mental health conditions receive the care they need, and Oregon continues to face significant challenges in meeting the growing demand for services.

Kairos is committed to helping address this need through strategic growth and innovation. Through recent expansions, including Lane Services in Eugene and Springfield, we are increasing access to mental health care for youth, young adults, and families throughout Lane County. Telehealth services are available now, allowing individuals and families to begin receiving support immediately.

Looking ahead, we are also developing innovative projects such as transitional tiny homes for young adults exiting treatment programs. This initiative is designed to help bridge the gap between treatment and independent living by providing stable housing, life-skills development, and ongoing support for young adults as they build successful futures.

At Kairos, we remain focused on one goal: helping youth, young adults, and families build healthier lives and stronger communities. We are grateful for the support of our staff, community partners, donors, and advocates who make this work possible. We are excited to be serving Eugene, Springfield, and the broader Lane County community and look forward to making a lasting difference for generations to come.
