Springfield Seeks Volunteers for Advisory Committee on Housing and Design Updates

The City of Springfield is accepting applications until May 9 for a project advisory committee that will help guide key updates to the Springfield Development Code and adopted land use plans. These updates are part of the Housing and Design Initiative, a plan and code update effort, which supports housing production and choice by reducing regulatory barriers and supports a more welcoming Springfield.

Who should apply
The City welcomes applicants with diverse experiences and perspectives who share a common goal – finding the best solutions for Springfield. You may be a great fit if you are:

  • A Springfield resident (owner or renter)
  • Someone looking to move to or invest in Springfield
  • A professional in housing, economic development, land use planning, architecture, engineering, real estate, or related fields

Committee details

  • Time Commitment: Approximately six meetings through 2025 (up to 2 hours each)
  • Format: Volunteer (non-paid)
  • Apply By: Friday, May 9, 2025, at 5:00 p.m.

About the project
This initiative works in alignment with Springfield’s Housing Strategy and ensures compliance with new State housing mandates. It includes updates to make development standards for housing clear and objective in mixed-use residential and commercial areas, while identifying opportunities to foster walkable, welcoming places.
