Plus, Black Forest Tattoo is planning a special ribbon cutting event to welcome the community to the new space! The ribbon cutting will take place at the shop located at 149 5th Street, on Tuesday, April 1 from 11AM-12PM.
Tell us a little more about Black Forest Tattoo Company.
Black Forest Tattoo Company is a new tattoo shop featuring several artists and a gallery space. The shop offers a modern but rustic atmosphere, accented with raw burnt wood railings, and a front reception desk finished off with a slab of live edge black locust wood. I have brought my love for the Northwest into a beautiful, modern setting full of talent. Come by and see what we are all about!
Where and how did you get started in this type of business?
I’m a Springfield, Oregon native. After receiving my tattoo license locally nearly 14 years ago, I went on to work at and help manage a few well-established local shops, eventually owning tattoo shops in Eugene and Roseburg. After deciding to venture out on my own, I opened Black Forest Tattoo Company. Having been born and raised here, I have a great sense of pride in bringing a small business into the town I grew up in. I also have a deep love for hunting and fishing, so you can only imagine how this translates into my work. After 14 years in the trade, my love for both crafts have brought me to be highly sought after for my black-and-grey realism. Everything from portrait work to wildlife and nature scenes can be seen coming out of my chair. While still offering various other styles of tattooing, including color, I likes to focus on my strong suits.
What services do you offer and what makes Black Forest Tattoo unique?
We offer custom tattoo art, with designs and tattoos from a talented group of artists. When you walk through our doors, you’ll find a team who does everything from traditional art to fine line to realism. We pride ourselves in keeping a clean, well-organized, and family friendly location that welcomes everyone from all walks of life. You can also find fine art and photography created and presented by the artists in the shop.
What do you like most about this work?
The best thing about being in this trade is, of course, the freedom. Also, being touched by the lives of so many people is a very special walk through life. To share, love, and grow a relationship with so many people that share a love and appreciation for your craft is a hidden blessing. I feel so honored and blessed to be shown any interest as a potential artist for something so personal and permanent. A lot of clients have grown to become like family, dear friends, and life inspirations. There is no other trade like it.
Do you have any advice for others?
My advice for others would be to research your artist. Find an artist that you not only click with, but one that truly cares for you and your best interest. One who treats you like a human, not a dollar bill. Beyond that, never let anyone tell you you can’t do something or that you’re not good enough. You can accomplish anything you put your mind to. Your dreams can become your reality. All you have to do is start taking steps in that direction. Focus on it and know that it is yours to have, because it most definitely is! Get up and go get it. Just be sure to enjoy the journey!
