Springfield residents are invited to recycle and properly dispose of unwanted household items during the City of Springfield’s annual Spring Cleanup event on Saturday, May 16, from 8:00am to 3:00pm at EcoSort in Glenwood.

The free event helps residents clear out clutter while keeping reusable and recyclable materials out of the landfill. Spring Cleanup also supports community beautification efforts by reducing illegal dumping and providing safe disposal options for difficult-to-manage household materials.

New this year, residents may also dispose of household batteries and unused or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications. These materials require special disposal and should not be placed in household trash or poured down drains.

Accepted items include:

  • TVs and electronics
  • Appliances
  • Scrap metal
  • Scrap lumber

  • Computers
  • Yard debris
  • Clothing
  • Furniture

  • Household batteries
  • Unused/expired medications

To help keep traffic moving safely and efficiently, the following items will not be accepted:

  • Enclosed loads such as moving trucks
  • Paint
  • Household garbage
  • Chemicals

  • Fluorescent lights
  • Car parts
  • Dirt
  • Oversized items including hot tubs, boats

Residents are encouraged to review the full list of accepted and prohibited items before attending: bit.ly/SpfldORCleanup
