Candidate Filing Opens for Springfield Ward 4 City Council Election

The City of Springfield is accepting candidate filings for the Ward 4 City Council seat for the November 3, 2026 general election. The elected candidate will serve the remaining two years of the term currently held by appointed City Councilor Jill Cuadros, which ends December 31, 2028.

Springfield residents interested in running for the Ward 4 City Council position may obtain candidate filing forms and election information from the City Recorder’s Office at Springfield City Hall, 225 Fifth Street, Springfield, Oregon, or online here.

The first day to file is June 3, 2026. Candidate filing materials must be submitted no later than 5:00pm on August 18, 2026.

About Ward 4
Ward 4 encompasses a central-east portion of Springfield. Key landmarks in this ward include the Bob Keefer Center for Sports and Recreation, Agnes Stewart Middle School, Mt. Vernon Elementary, Maple Elementary, the Springfield DMV, Jerry’s Home Improvement Center, and the Walmart Supercenter.

Geographically, Ward 4 is generally bounded by Highway 126 to the north, 21st Street to the west, 42nd Street to the east, and the southern city limits near the Middle Fork of the Willamette River. View the Ward 4 boundary map here.

About the Springfield City Council
Springfield’s Mayor and six Councilors make up the City’s legislative body. These volunteers serve four-year terms, setting policy, passing ordinances and resolutions, authorizing contracts, adopting the City’s budget, and appointing the City Manager, City Attorney, and advisory board members.

Council members also represent the City on various boards and commissions and participate in community events throughout the year.

Council Meetings
City Council meetings are open to the public and follow Oregon’s Public Meetings law (ORS Chapter 192).

Meetings are typically held at Springfield City Hall as follows:

• Work Sessions: 2nd and 4th Mondays at 5:30pm (with additional sessions as needed on 1st and 3rd Mondays at 6:00 p.m. Work session start times may vary.)
• Regular Meetings: 1st and 3rd Mondays at 7:00pm (moved to the next business day if a holiday falls on a Monday.)
• Council usually recesses for Spring Break, and during summer and winter holidays.
