Mayor Lundberg Honors Spirit of Springfield Recipients

Mayor Christine Lundberg honored three Spirit of Springfield recipients at the 2020 State of the City Address held on Monday, January 13.

The Mayor’s Spirit of Springfield Leadership Award 2019 was presented to Vonnie Mikkelsen, president and CEO of the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Mikkelsen was selected for her powerful advocacy of local businesses. Mikkelsen is a native Oregonian. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations/Political Science from Willamette University before living and working abroad for 16 years. She returned to the community and has been a tireless champion of Springfield businesses and works to empower those around her.





The Mayor’s Spirit of Springfield Large Business Award 2019 was presented to Wayfair for their commitment to growing a strong Springfield. Wayfair opened their first west coast customer service center in Springfield, Oregon. The firm, located in 555 International Way, is a tenant to Pacific Source Health Plans, and has been a key employer in retaining local talent previously employed by Symantec. The is anticipated to reach more than 400 employees by early 2020.


The Mayor’s Spirit of Springfield Small Business Award 2019 was presented to Busy Bee Café for their dedication to serving the Springfield community. The Busy Bee Café, located at 2152 Main Street is a local and visitor’s favorite dining spot. The Café is known for its great food and service, but also for the Busy Bee staff’s dedication to the community. The Café has been hosting free annual Thanksgiving meals for 14 years!
