Willamalane and McKenzie River Trust Host 5K Fundraiser During Wildfire Awareness Month
Willamalane’s 5K Your Way offers the community a way to support the McKenzie River while staying active. The 5K program, occurring during Wildfire Awareness Month, will dedicate proceeds to McKenzie River Trust.
McKenzie River Trust stepped up to restore and rebuild watershed areas after the Holiday Farm Fire swept the McKenzie River Valley. As efforts continue, they need continued support from community members and local partners to protect 6,719 acres of vulnerable lands and waters.
Willamalane’s virtual 5K Your Way program runs May 7-17. The program acts as a seasonal fundraiser for local non-profits and causes. Registration fees are $5 per participant, and all proceeds support McKenzie River Trust. Past 5Ks have benefited the Café 60 Senior Meals program and Youth Athletics scholarships. Willamalane Mitigates Wildfire Risk
Park and recreation organizations manage a large percentage of public lands and play a critical role in climate mitigation strategies. Each year, Willamalane prepares for wildfire season by conducting proactive fuel reduction projects, burning piles of winter storm debris. In an effort to prevent wildfires in the future, Willamalane has applied for federal grants to fund more wildfire suppression projects.
