Drainage might be out of sight, but for Daylight Drainage, it’s never out of mind. This locally-owned company is dedicated to protecting homes from water damage through expert, underground drainage solutions tailored for Lane County properties. The Springfield Chamber spoke with Owner Brian Hafdahl to learn how his specialized focus on gravity-fed systems like french drains, downspout extensions, and crawlspace water management has filled a critical gap in the home services market, helping residents safeguard their investments from the ground up.

Tell us a little about Daylight Drainage
Daylight Drainage specializes in residential property drainage services. We provide homeowners with comprehensive drainage systems that protect their homes and properties from water damage caused by improper stormwater management and flooding. Unlike plumbers or irrigation companies, our main focus is on gravity-fed pipes and sump pumps, installed under homes, in yards, and in basements to redirect water away from the property.

How did you get started in your industry?
Daylight Drainage was founded after we recognized a clear need for a company focused exclusively on drainage solutions for Lane County residents. Our team had spent years working in home renovation, real estate, and landscaping, and during that time we saw how often homeowners struggled with drainage issues. The demand was there, and when we looked at other companies, we noticed that drainage was rarely their top priority. Instead, these projects were often pushed aside in favor of less complicated jobs —leaving property owners with few reliable options. Due to that gap in the market and our years of experience with building these systems, we decided that we would make residential drainage our specialty.

What services do you offer, and what makes Daylight Drainage unique?
Our company is unique because drainage is the only service we provide. We specialize in installing french drains, underground downspout systems, channel drains, yard drainage systems, and sump pumps. Our work also includes crawlspace and basement water management, which ties directly into the drainage solutions we install. We take pride in designing and building durable systems using high-quality materials and staying current on the best practices in the industry. Our focus and attention to detail truly set us apart.

What do you like most about your work?
We enjoy seeing a drainage system come together from concept to completion. Communicating with homeowners, understanding their needs, and then turning a plan into a functioning system is always exciting. Our trade is unique because most of what we build is hidden underground, yet it is rewarding to know we’ve created a system that protects a homeowner’s investment and provides peace of mind for years to come.

Any advice for others?
The best advice I can give is the same lesson my father taught me: be honest and communicate clearly. When you stay true to your word and follow through on your commitments, you build genuine trust in your community. It is also important to take pride in your work and never settle for “good enough.”

Anything else you’d like to share?
As lifelong Oregonians who grew up here, we feel incredibly fortunate to serve the residents of Springfield, Eugene, and the rest of Lane County. Drainage is often overlooked or considered an afterthought by homeowners and builders, yet improper stormwater management is one of the most significant causes of property damage and is extremely costly to fix after the damage occurs.
