As winter weather begins to settle in, the City of Springfield is reminding community members to stay safe and prepared with a series of helpful tips and resources shared across its social media platforms. This Winter Preparedness Awareness Campaign aims to equip the community with practical advice for handling winter emergencies, power outages, and driving in icy conditions.

The City will feature a five-part series on winter preparedness throughout the week:

Part 1: Build an Emergency Kit
The first post highlights the essentials needed for a Winter Emergency Kit, including flashlights, blankets, non-perishable food, and pet supplies. The post also emphasizes the importance of having a weather radio that doubles as a flashlight and power bank.

Part 2Winter Vehicle Preparedness
The second post shares critical tips for winter driving, including inspecting your car’s antifreeze, battery, tires, and wipers. Residents are encouraged to carry chains, keep their gas tanks full, and pack emergency supplies such as blankets, flashlights, and a first-aid kit. The post links to resources for road conditions and further guidance.

Part 3: Winter Driving Safety
The third post offers tips to stay safe on the road, including checking tires, carrying chains, and packing an emergency car kit with blankets and water. It also urges residents to check road conditions via TripCheck.com before heading out.

Part 4: Navigating Power Outages
The fourth post focuses on how to stay safe and warm during a winter power outage. Tips include safe heating methods, food storage guidance, and preventing frozen pipes.

Part 5: Winter Resources and Preparation
The final post in the series wraps up the campaign by providing a comprehensive list of resources to help residents prepare for and manage winter challenges. Links include the Oregon Emergency Management website, Ready.gov, and Red Cross guidelines.

Each post will provide resources and links for additional information from the Oregon Department of Emergency Management (@OregonOEM).

Residents are encouraged to follow the City of Springfield on FacebookInstagram, and X (formerly known as Twitter) or timely updates and practical tips throughout the winter season.
