The City of Springfield is proud to celebrate Maddi McGraw, Museum Curator, and Mindy Linder, Community Engagement Specialist, at the Springfield History Museum, who were honored with the 2025 Human Rights Leadership Award at the 22nd Annual Dolores Huerta / Cesar Chavez Celebration, held April 16 at Hamlin Middle School.

Presented by the Springfield Alliance for Equity and Respect (SAfER), the Human Rights Leadership Award recognizes Springfield community members who demonstrate the values of social justice embodied by leaders such as Martin Luther King Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt, Dolores Huerta, and Cesar Chavez. Awardees are selected for their personal commitment and action in support of equity, inclusion, and respect.

McGraw and Linder were recognized for their extraordinary work in creating and curating the Illumination Project at the Springfield History Museum, an ongoing story collection initiative that intentionally centers the voices, histories, and lived experiences of underrepresented community members. Through narrative, photography, and video, the exhibit uplifts stories that too often overlooked, sparking meaningful conversations and fostering deeper connections across Springfield.

The Illumination Exhibit currently features four unique collections, including 35 oral history video interviews and more than 150 photographs. Together, they offer a richer, and more accurate historical record for future generations.

The celebration also featured inspiring student art and essay displays around the theme “Together, all things are possible,” along with musical performances by Mariachi del Sol from Springfield High School and the Guy Lee Elementary Dual Immersion Singers, including a joint performance of “De Colores.

The City of Springfield extends heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to Maddi McGraw and Mindy Linder for their contributions to human rights, local storytelling, and inclusive community-building.
