Willamalane is hosting a neighborhood meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. to share the proposed final design and the timeline for updates at Tyson Park (3405 E Street in Springfield). This meeting will be held virtually on Teams, with Spanish closed captions. To learn more and access the meeting, visit willamalane.org/projects/tyson-park-redevelopment.

This project began in February 2024, with community input collected through surveys, meetings, and focus groups, and three draft designs. The meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 16, will share the proposed final design. This design includes new amenities the community deemed most important for Tyson Park, including a new playground, picnic shelter, gathering spaces, jogging trail, and community garden.

After discussions with the City of Springfield planning staff, Willamalane was required to add emergency access routes to the design to better meet Springfield development code requirements.

Willamalane has also sought additional funding for park upgrades. Two grants were awarded in 2025, totaling nearly $700,000.

Land use review and permitting are expected to be completed this winter. Construction is expected to begin next year, with completion in late 2026.

Tyson Park was identified as a high-priority redevelopment site in Willamalane’s 2023 Comprehensive Plan due to the outdated and poor condition of existing amenities and play features. It is the only park serving this central Springfield neighborhood, which is in close proximity to several Springfield Public School sites.
