Advocacy in Action: Springfield Chamber Joins Coalition Letter Preserving the B-SALT Deduction

In a continued commitment to championing transparent, growth-oriented tax policy, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce has signed on to a national coalition letter urging Congress to preserve the federal deduction for state and local business taxes in the tax provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), known as the B-SALT deduction.

The letter, organized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and co-signed by hundreds of business organizations nationwide, calls on lawmakers to prevent a backdoor tax increase on American businesses by maintaining the deduction as a core feature of federal tax law.

For the Springfield Chamber, the decision reflects its broader advocacy priorities: supporting tax policies that stimulate economic growth, ensure fairness across all sectors, and promote fiscal responsibility. In Oregon, businesses that qualify for the 20% pass-through deduction in the TCJA account for 54% of private sector employment, including sole proprietorships, partnerships, limited liability companies, and S-corporations. The collective tax benefit of this deduction equals up to $2,333,120,000 statewide.

The full coalition letter was submitted to Members of Congress in April and is available on the U.S. Chamber’s website.
