Experience Art, Music and Culture at Springfield’s Second Friday Art Walk

The Springfield Arts Commission invites community members, art lovers, and media to celebrate local creativity at the Second Friday Art Walk on Friday, April 11, featuring a stunning new exhibit by photographer Kenji Shimizu at the City Hall Gallery (225 5th Street).
The opening reception runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Guests will enjoy live music by Aaron Nelson and Jessilyn Brinkerhoff, light refreshments, and the opportunity to meet the artist and explore meaningful conversations about identity, inclusion, and the power of visual storytelling.
Shimizu’s current project captures the diversity of Springfield residents, offering a compelling portrait of community. Originally from Japan, Kenji brings a unique lens shaped by cultural contrast and a deep desire to celebrate the richness of different backgrounds and lived experiences.

Youth Art on Display
Visitors can also enjoy two special student art showcases in the Youth Gallery:
- April 1-16: Advanced Placement and Independent Studies portfolios from Springfield High School students
- April 17-30: Selected student works from the Dolores Huerta & César Chávez Celebration
These exhibits highlight the emerging talent of Springfield’s young artists, whose pieces explore identity, social justice, and cultural pride.
