Springfield Mayor Officially Declares ‘Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day’

Springfield Mayor Sean VanGordon joined Springfield Chamber board and staff members at the historic Depot Wednesday to issue a proclamation that officially marks October 19, 2022 Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day in Springfield.

Annually, Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day is observed on the third Wednesday in October, and honors the local and regional chambers whose primary objective is to strengthen and advocate for businesses of all sizes in their communities.


The full text of Mayor VanGordon’s Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day Proclamation:

WHEREAS, Chambers of Commerce strive to address the community’s top challenges and greatest opportunities through bold leadership and innovative problem-solving; and

WHEREAS, chambers of commerce foster stronger, more vibrant communities by advocating for priorities to promote economic prosperity, boost quality of life and create access to meaningful employment and opportunity for all residents.

WHEREAS, chambers of commerce are champions of communities, serving as a trusted resource for businesses, residents, visitors, and other stakeholders; and

WHEREAS, chambers of commerce create catalytic community partnerships to build resilient economies and promote community-wide prosperity; and

WHEREAS, businesspeople in Springfield came together to form partnerships with the shared goal to promote economic prosperity many years before the first known recorded history in January 4, 1933; and

WHEREAS, the recorded history describes how the Springfield chamber of commerce advocated for and cooperated with state and federal government to gain critical infrastructure needs throughout the region and the state; and

WHEREAS, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce was formally incorporated in 1949; and

WHEREAS, today, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce is held in highest regard as a respected business association serving Springfield and surrounding communities; and 

WHEREAS, the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce members and staff are invested and dedicated to strengthening, representing, and promoting business so that our community thrives; 

THEREFORE, I, Sean VanGordon, Mayor of Springfield, Oregon, hereby proclaim October 19, 2022, as Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day in Springfield, and encourage all residents, businesses, government, and nonprofit organizations to learn more about the chamber, its impact and its work in support of local businesses and our community’s future.
