Willamalane Announces Limited Reopening
New Extreme Risk guidelines allow for additional offerings
SPRINGFIELD, OR – On Tuesday, Feb. 9, Willamalane Park and Recreation District reopened its doors at Bob Keefer Center, welcoming community members back to its fitness center.
While Lane County remains in Extreme Risk, the fitness center will operate under the following procedure:
- Time blocks must be reserved in advance for 45-minute sessions, starting on the hour.
- Each room will be limited to one household and have a capacity of no more than three people per time block.
- Participants must check in at the front desk.
- Anyone in the building must wear a face covering or face shield at all times.
Other Willamalane in-person programs available while Lane County remains in Extreme Risk include tennis lessons, some recreational programs, youth athletics, and full-time preschool and school-age childcare. Willamalane’s parks, playgrounds, trails, and open spaces also remain open for community use.
Willamalane’s Director of Recreation Services, Jase Newton said, “We have been challenged throughout the year with so many reopening and closure phases. Our team continues to do an exceptional job reviewing guidelines and working with each other and our partners to find the best solutions to serve our community. We continue to develop new and innovative programs, and are proud that we can provide events and activities to enrich the lives of everyone we serve.”
Group exercise classes will remain online-only through Willamalane’s Fitness at Home program, which offers 36 classes weekly all conducted live through Microsoft Teams.
Community members can also stay connected and active with Willamalane alternative programs including take-home kits and online adult recreation classes,snow shoe rentals, new hiking programs, esports leagues, book and puzzle delivery services, and virtual PE programs.
