Founded in 2019, Lane County Diaper Bank helps support families in need by distributing free diapers. The Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce recently connected with Teresa Baur, the executive director of Lane County Diaper Bank, to learn more about the organization.

Tell us a little about Lane County Diaper Bank.
Lane County Diaper Bank is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that every child in our community has access to clean diapers. We provide free diapers to families experiencing financial hardship, homelessness, or crisis, helping relieve a basic need that is often overlooked but essential for a child’s health and a parent’s ability to work or attend school. Through partnerships with local agencies and direct distribution, we currently provide hundreds of thousands of diapers each year — but we’re still working to meet a much larger need in Lane County.

How did you get started in your industry?
I started Lane County Diaper Bank in 2019 after seeing families in our community asking for help with diapers on social media. I myself had been a young, single low-income mother, so I began by personally purchasing and delivering diapers, and quickly realized how widespread the need was. After connecting with the National Diaper Bank Network, I officially launched the organization. What started in my home has grown into a full warehouse and distribution program serving thousands of families.

What services do you offer and what makes Lane County Diaper Bank different?
We provide free diapers through a network of local partner agencies, as well as through our own diaper distribution center. Families can access diapers in a low-barrier, supportive environment.

What makes us different is our focus on dignity and accessibility. We believe diapers are a basic need, not a luxury. We also serve as the only diaper bank in Lane County, which means families rely on us as their primary resource. Our work not only supports children’s health, but also helps parents stay employed, attend school, and reduce stress at home.

What do you like most about your work?
The most rewarding part is seeing the direct impact on families. Something as simple as a pack of diapers can relieve so much stress and allow parents to focus on work, school, and caring for their children. Hearing from families about how this support has helped them is what keeps me going.

Any advice for others?
If you see a need in your community, start small and just begin. You don’t have to have everything figured out. The most important thing is taking that first step and being willing to grow and learn along the way.

Anything else you’d like to share?
The need for diapers is significant — millions are needed each year in Lane County alone, and programs like SNAP and WIC don’t cover them. Lane County Diaper Bank is always looking for community support through donations, volunteers, and partnerships. Every $10 provides a pack of diapers for a child, and every bit of support helps us move closer to meeting the need in our community.
