Jami Resch Officially Sworn In as Springfield Police Chief

Surrounded by City leadership, law enforcement partners, and community members, Jami Resch was officially sworn in as Chief of Police for the City of Springfield during a ceremony held Wednesday afternoon at the Springfield Justice Center.
The event marked a significant milestone for the Springfield Police Department, with Honorable James Tierney administering the oath of office in recognition of Resch’s commitment to professional, community-centered policing.
“Her extensive experience in law enforcement, leadership, and her continued work enhancing SPD’s culture makes her a great fit for the department and Springfield’s future,” said Springfield City Manager Nancy Newton. “She is the natural choice. Chief Resch has already contributed to operational changes within SPD, including a stronger focus on de-escalation training and accountability to the community. She is a dedicated and passionate public servant, and under her leadership community trust remains strong.”

Resch, who joined SPD in 2023 following a distinguished career at the Portland Police Bureau, addressed attendees with a message of unity and shared responsibility.
“Being sworn in today is an incredible honor. This department is full of dedicated professionals who truly care about this community. My goal is to lead by example, to listen, and to continue building strong relationships that help us grow together. Public safety is something we do with our community, not for it, and I’m excited for the work ahead.”

Her appointment signals a continued focus on accountability, community trust, and service excellence within the Springfield Police Department.
