The Springfield Arts Commission (SAC) announces it will begin accepting applications for its Spring HAG cycle on January 1, 2020 and will be offering new information sessions for applicants wanting to learn more about the grant process.
“Creativity is a powerful agent for engaging and connecting our community,” said Melissa Green, Springfield Arts commissioner and chair of the HAG committee. “We are proud to offer the Heritage Art Grant in support of arts-based projects that broaden access to arts, promote inclusive community engagement, inspire dialogue, and enhance the sustainability of cultural enterprises.”
The HAG intends to celebrate not only the arts, but also to recognize projects in Springfield that preserve and celebrate the culture of the city. Past grant awards have provided funding for music and dance groups, as well as projects involving visual arts.
The grant application and guidelines may be found on the Springfield Arts Commission’s website at springfieldartscommission.org/heritage_grants.html.
The deadline for the spring cycle is 5 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
The Heritage Arts Grant program was developed to encourage community-based public arts programs to enrich and promote the cultural heritage of the City of Springfield. The grants are funded by the City of Springfield room taxes and administered by the Springfield Arts Commission.
Grant awards range from $250 to $1,500 per project. Past awards have supported projects such as the The Past Prime Time Players; Grupo Latino de Accion Directa; Eugene Springfield Youth Orchestra; Springfield Alliance for Equality and Respect’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration; The Academy of Arts and Academics’ A3 Composition Project; and the Springfield School District’s Centro de Bienvenida Cesar Chavez Celebration.
